Coed Mawr Food Bank

The Food Bank was set up in in 2016/17 – working with a local supermarket and parent and toddler group. During the pandemic the service continued, delivering to pensioners and vulnerable people in the area. Once restrictions were removed and people went back to work, the demand for support increased – with many finding that they didn’t have a job to go back to, or that pressures of rising costs meant they needed the help of the food bank.

The centre is currently distributing between 40 and 50 food bags per week with five meals and breakfast cereals in each. This equates to over 1,000 meals a month, and it is expected to hit 40,000 meals distributed over the coming weeks.

The Food Bank plays an important role locally. They do more than distribute food – they are close to the community and are always ready to listen and provide emotional support when necessary.
